This hand-drawn print of the powers of Tolkien's world beautifully illustrates the divine hierarchy of Arda. At the center lies Eru Ilúvatar, the Creator, the One, represented by a swirling flame imperishable, or "Secret Fire" as Tolkien describes. Radiating outward are the Valar - the powerful divine council of The One who are sent to Arda to govern it. However, broken off in the lower right corner lies Melkor, later known as Morgoth, the Dark Lord, who in his pride and rebellion is separated from the divine council.
